Chlortetracycline Product Introduction
Chlortetracycline is a tetracycline antibiotic, historically the first member of the tetracycline class to be identified. It is derived from the actinomycete Streptomyces aureofaciens, which was discovered by Benjamin Minge Duggar in 1945.
Chemical Properties:
Mechanism of Action: Chlortetracycline works by entering bacterial cells and binding to the 30s ribosomal subunit, preventing peptide elongation and ultimately inhibiting protein synthesis. Resistance to chlortetracycline can occur due to inactivation by cell enzymes or pumping the antibiotic out of the cell.
Spectrum: Chlortetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial cells.
