Product name: Isometamidium chloride
CAS No: 34301-55-8
Isometamidium is a phenanthridine aromatic amidine with a narrow therapeutic index which has been marketed for over 30 years as both a prophylactic and a therapeutic trypanocidal agent in the field. Isometamidium chloride is used curatively at lower dosage rates, and prophylactically at higher dosage rates.
Intromidium is indicated for treatment and prevention of trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma spp. in cattle, goats, sheep, camels, horses and dogs. A preventive dosage ensures protection for 2 to 4 months. When clinical cases occur, the whole group should be treated.
Application and Effect
Isometamidium chloride is mainly used in the following fields:
Veterinary medicine field
Antiprotozoal drugs: Isometamidium chloride is an effective antiprotozoal drug, mainly used to prevent and treat piroplasmosis, such as babesiosis and theileriosis, in ruminants such as cattle and sheep. These protozoa can invade the red blood cells or lymphocytes of animals, causing symptoms such as high fever, anemia, jaundice, hemoglobinuria, and even death in severe cases. Isometamidium chloride can achieve the purpose of treating and preventing diseases by interfering with the metabolic process of protozoa and inhibiting their growth and reproduction.
Antitrypanosomal drugs: It also has a certain preventive and therapeutic effect on animal trypanosomiasis. Trypanosomes can parasitize in the blood of animals, causing symptoms such as emaciation, anemia, edema, etc., affecting the growth and development and production performance of animals. Isometamidium chloride can enter the body of trypanosomes, act on their specific targets, interfere with the energy metabolism and cell division of trypanosomes, thereby killing trypanosomes or inhibiting their activity, alleviating disease symptoms, and reducing the mortality rate of infected animals.
Research field
As a research tool: Isomethonidazole chloride is often used as a research tool in parasitology and pharmacology research. Researchers can use it to study the biological characteristics, metabolic pathways, and drug resistance mechanisms of protozoa and trypanosomes, as well as explore new antiparasitic drug targets and develop new treatments. By observing the effects and impacts of isomethonidazole chloride on parasites, we can gain a deeper understanding of the interaction between parasites and hosts, and provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of parasitic diseases.
It should be noted that isomethonidazole chloride has certain toxicity, and it needs to be used strictly in accordance with the prescribed dosage and method to ensure the safety of animals and the therapeutic effect. At the same time, in some countries and regions, its use may be strictly regulated to prevent drug residues and environmental impacts.
