Calcium iodate is a chemical compound with the formula Ca(IO3)2, which serves as a source of iodine. 

1. Chemical Properties:

   • Calcium iodate is a colorless orthorhombic crystal or white crystal that is odorless.
   • It has a boiling point of 783°C and a relative density of 2.55.
   • It is soluble in nitric acid and slightly soluble in water, with six crystal waters that dehydrate at 40°C, turning it into anhydrous form.
   • The density is 4.52 g/cm³, and it melts at 540°C (decomposes).
   • It is stable and appears as a white crystalline powder or colorless crystals.

2. Uses:

   • In the feed industry, calcium iodate is used as an iodine additive for premix.
   • It is used as a quality enhancer and preservative in the food industry.
   • In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used in the preparation of mouthwash, as an iodine substitute, and as a trace element nutritional supplement and deodorant.
   • It is used as a wheat flour treatment, dough conditioner, and as a quick-acting oxidant in bread dough when added to wheat flour.
   • Calcium iodate is also used in animal feed and the manufacture of disinfectants.
   • It is a source of iodine in table salts and is more stable than the iodide form
