Boric acid is a white, crystalline solid that can be either granular or powdery, with a slippery, soapy feel to the touch. It is an odorless. Boric acid is a weak Lewis acid with a pH of approximately 5.1 (for a 1.0% aqueous solution at 20°C)
Glass & Ceramics: Essential in the production of borosilicate glass (heat-resistant cookware and laboratory equipment), textile fiberglass, glazes, and enamels
Agriculture: Used as a micronutrient (boron fertilizer) to prevent boron deficiency in plants, promote growth, enhance flowering and fruit set, and as a natural fungicide
Personal Care: Common mild antiseptic for burns and surface wounds; a key ingredient in eye lotions and some topical preparations
Flame Retardant: Applied to fabrics and cellulose insulation to enhance fire resistance
Wood Preservation & Insecticide: Effective in protecting wood and controlling pests
Chemical Synthesis: Used as a precursor for various boron derivatives, in electroplating solutions, leather tanning, adhesives, lubricants, and as a flux in welding and soldering
