Product Description

Minoxidil sulfate is an active metabolite of minoxidil, a drug originally developed as an antihypertensive medication. Its use in hair growth promotion was discovered serendipitously when it was observed that patients treated with minoxidil for hypertension experienced hypertrichosis, or excessive hair growth. This led to the development of topical minoxidil formulations for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (AGA), which is the most common form of hair loss.

The mechanism of action of minoxidil sulfate is not completely understood but is thought to involve several pathways. It is believed to stimulate hair follicle cells, prolong the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle, and shorten the telogen (resting) phase. This results in increased hair thickness and density. Additionally, minoxidil sulfate may have a vasodilatory effect, improving blood flow to the hair follicles and thus enhancing their health and function.

Minoxidil sulfate is available in various topical formulations, including solutions, foams, and lotions, and is typically applied directly to the scalp. It is approved by the FDA for the treatment of AGA in both men and women. The common side effects of topical minoxidil sulfate are generally limited to the application site and can include itching, redness, and dryness.
