Product Detail

Name: Hexadecylamine
CAS: 143-27-1
Feature:
Hexadecylamine is a colorless crystal. Its melting point is 46.77°C, boiling point is 177.9°C (1.3kPa), and 144°C (0.27kPa). The density of hexadecylamine (20°C) is 0.8129g/cm3. It is insoluble in water and easily soluble in ethanol or ether. Hexadecylamine is produced by the reaction of palmitic acid with ammonia, dehydration and hydrogenation.
Hexadecylamine has an ammonia-like odor. It is insoluble in water and less dense, so it floats on water. Contact with it may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Cetylamine may be toxic by ingestion, inhalation, or skin absorption. It is used to make other chemicals.
Hexadecylamine neutralizes the acid in an exothermic reaction to form a salt and water. It may be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, acid anhydrides and acid halides. Combination of hexadecylamine with strong reducing agents such as hydrides may produce flammable gaseous hydrogen.
Contact with molten hexadecamine may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of exposure or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may generate irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Firefighting or dilution water runoff can be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.
Hexadecylamine is non-flammable, the substance itself does not burn, but may decompose when heated to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes. Some are oxidizers and may ignite combustibles (wood, paper, oil, clothing, etc.). Contact with metal may generate flammable hydrogen gas. The container may explode if heated.
Hexadecylamine has the following applications/functions:
1. Hexadecylamine is used in the preparation of resins, pesticides, advanced detergents, water treatment corrosion inhibitors, dye coatings and other organic chemicals.
2. Hexadecylamine can prevent dental caries.
3. Hexadecylamine is used in the production of resins, advanced detergents and anti-caking agents.
4. Hexadecylamine is used as fiber auxiliaries, fertilizer anti-caking agent, flotation agent, etc.
