It is used to prevent bacterial infection of poultry. It is also an anti coccidiosis drug. It is combined with Sulfaquinoxaline to treat poultry coccidiosis.
 
  1. Antibacterial Activity: Diaveridine exhibits in vitro antibacterial efficacy against a range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Clostridium spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus anthracis .

  2. Anticoccidial Effect: It has significant activity against coccidia and other protozoa, making it useful in the prevention and treatment of coccidiosis in poultry and rabbits .

  3. Combination Therapy: Diaveridine is often used in combination with sulfonamides like sulfaguanidine and sulfamonomethoxine to prevent intestinal infections, enhancing its antibacterial effects through synergistic action .

  4. Pharmacokinetics and Metabolism: Studies have investigated the metabolism and pharmacokinetics of Diaveridine in food animals. In pigs, six metabolites involving O-demethylation, α-hydroxylation, and N-oxidation have been characterized. In chickens, 14 metabolites have been identified after a single oral administration, indicating extensive biotransformation in these species
