Product Description

Product Description

Dihydroavenanthramide D (dhAvD) is a synthetic derivative of avenanthramide, which is a bioactive component found in oats known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties . A study published in 2024 has shown that dhAvD can enhance skin barrier function through the upregulation of epidermal tight junction expression . This is significant because skin barrier dysfunction and thin epidermis are common in sensitive skin and can contribute to premature aging.

The research conducted in vitro using HaCaT cells demonstrated that dhAvD can improve keratinocyte proliferation, migration, and the expression of tight junction proteins, which are vital for a robust skin barrier . The study also used a model that simulated skin barrier dysfunction induced by Th2 cytokines, IL-4 and IL-13, which are implicated in atopic dermatitis. The findings indicated that dhAvD treatment can restore barrier function and normalize the expression of key epidermal components, such as tight junction proteins and natural moisturizing factors, in keratinocytes treated with these inflammatory cytokines .

Furthermore, in a reconstructed human skin model, dhAvD was observed to promote both epidermal and dermal restoration, suggesting its potential to alleviate skin sensitivity and improve skin barrier function . The study also highlighted that dhAvD lacks a double bond present in avenanthramide, making it chemically more stable .

This compound has also shown potential in inhibiting mast cell degranulation and exhibits anti-inflammatory effects through the activation of the neurokinin-1 receptor (NK1R). This suggests that dhAvD could be a promising candidate for topical treatments of chronic pruritus .

Dihydroavenanthramide D is recognized as a stable and promising agent for improving skin health by enhancing the skin barrier and potentially providing anti-aging effects. Its effects on reducing skin sensitivity and restoring barrier function make it a valuable ingredient in dermatological applications.
