Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with the generic name naproxen and brand names such as Aleve, EC-Naprosyn, Flanax Pain Reliever, Midol Extended Relief, Naprelan, and others. It is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by various conditions like arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout, or menstrual cramps. Naproxen can also be used to treat acute pain caused by other conditions not listed in the medication guide. It is available in immediate-release and extended-release forms, with the extended-release forms being used for chronic conditions like arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis.
The drug works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
