N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine is a tertiary amine. N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine has a wide range of uses. It can be used as a component of formulated products and as an intermediate product of various special chemical derivatives. It is an important raw material for the production of quaternary ammonium salts. N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine is insoluble in water and has a lower density than water. So it floats on the water. Contact with it may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It may be toxic if ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine is used to make other chemicals. Its final product can be used as cleaning agent, foam stabilizer, disinfectant preservative, bactericide and antistatic agent.
N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine is toxic. Inhalation, ingestion or skin contact with material may cause severe injury or death. Contact with molten substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.
N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine is combustible material. It may burn but does not ignite readily. When heated, vapors may form explosive mixtures with air: indoors, outdoors and sewers explosion hazards. Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas. Containers may explode when heated. Runoff may pollute waterways. Substance may be transported in a molten form.
N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine has the following applications/functions:
1. N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine is mainly used in the manufacture of cationic and amphoteric surfactants. Dioctyl/decyl methyl tertiary amines are used as intermediates of fungicides and surfactants.
2. N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine is used in all other basic organic chemical manufacturing.
3. Since N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine has good cleaning power and bubble ability, it can be used in cleaning agents.
4. N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine has a certain foam stabilization effect because it can increase the viscosity of the foam and reduce the fluidity of the foam. Therefore, N-methyl-N-octyldecylamine can be used as a foam stabilizer.
